SUSTAINABLE FARMING ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

INTRODUCTION
Agripreneurs@Work is designed to create sustainable farming careers and state-of-the-art urban farms through innovative agricultural aligned training & mentorship programs and advisory consulting services. Agripreneurs@Work's approach to the agricultural industry addresses key areas of impact we find globally namely; Food Security, Climate change, nature and biodiversity conservation & Water restrictions. Our services range from Hydroponic Farming and Aeroponic Farming to Aquaculture to create sustainable and diverse agricultural solutions.

ABOUT AGRIPRENEURS@WORK
The country's dependence on desalinated water means that meeting more of it's food needs through domestic production is not sustainable in the long term. The resultant effects have had a negative impact on livelihoods. It is estimated that at least 35% of the South African population is food insecure. Food security issues have become a matter of global importance with governments putting in place policies which aim to alleviate poverty and improve livelihoods.

The growing population has also added pressure on already stressed resources. South-Africa has one of the highest job-ready populations who are unfortunately unable to secure employment. There is thus a high rural to urban migration mostly by youth looking for better opportunities.

Agripreneurs@Work has the potential to provide sustainable solutions which naturally require fewer resources to implement. Agripreneurs@Work is poised to play a critical role in developing new emerging farmers, training them and equipping them to start smart agricultural enterprises which will help in improving food security and create employment for South-Africa’s growing population.

The Agricultural Hubs will also provide youth with the right skills necessary to operate farming enterprises. The students will also gain experience through practical training offered by the Hub.

WHAT IS A QUALIFYING ENTERPRISE AND SUPPLIER DEVELOPMENT BENEFICIARY?
For an Enterprise to be eligible for Enterprise Development contributions, it must be financially and operationally independent. It must turnover less than R50 million (i.e. a QSE or EME) and must be at least 51% black owned. A qualifying Beneficiary must provide the donating party with sufficient proof that it qualifies. This proof may be given in the form of a Sworn Affidavit, an Independent Competent Persons Report or a Limited Assurance Report obtained from a B-BBEE Auditor.

A Supplier Development Beneficiary is a part of the Measured Entity’s supply chain, whereas an Enterprise Development Beneficiary is not.

THE CONTRIBUTOR ENTITY (DONOR/FUNDER)
There are 5 points available for ED for the measured entity and this can be obtained by contributing to specific programmes as a percentage of their target (1% of NPAT for ED). The contribution will be utilised in training and development of farmers. Note, there is also 1 bonus point available for the graduation of one or more Enterprise Beneficiaries to Supplier Development Level, as well as creating one or more jobs directly as a result of Enterprise Development contributions.

For a contribution to qualify for ED points on the scorecard it needs to be:

• Made to a Qualifying Enterprise within the company’s measured financial period.
• Qualified as an Enterprise and Supplier Development contribution by the Benefit Matrix.
